Carnival of the Animals
February - March 2015
A MWMT/MWCO coproduction with Sinfonia Cymru, The Hafren, Theatr Brycheiniog and Wyeside Arts Centre
- 6 concerts
- 20 primary schools workshops
- 1,800 participants
Our Carnival of the Animals project included music-making and animation workshops at six primary schools across Powys, leading to six interactive concerts at Theatr Brycheiniog in Brecon, Wyeside Arts Centre in Builth Wells and The Hafren in Newtown.
“I liked the lion because I liked hearing the instruments ROAR.” (Harrison, aged 8)
“I liked the wild asses because they were running across the piano.” (Jack, aged 9)
Workshops
Working with music leader Sam Glazer and the fantastic musicians of Sinfonia Cymru, Key Stage 2 children created new musical animals inspired by Carnival of the Animals – they ranged from a mischievous puppy to murderous piranhas.
Animations
Animator Gerald Conn worked with the children of Maesyrhandir School in Newtown to create beautiful animations to accompany three of the movements.
“The music was amazing! Everything was really fun!”
Our supporters
We are very grateful to our partners at Theatr Brycheiniog, Wyeside Arts Centre and The Hafren who help make our schools programme possible and to all the funders who support our projects.
